Coachella 2006 The Line Up- 2nd Edition

Its safe to say that I can officially post up this line up, since there was a fake poster circulating around the web.
Unfortunately, The Smashing Pumpkins will NOT be performing for a reunion concert as it was anticipated.
Rather, Tool will take the helm as the second night headliner.

January

Image hosting by Photobucket
The buzz is the release of Bishop Allen's "January" EP.
Their plan is to put out an EP for each month of this year. Perhaps not elaborate of a plan as Sufjan Stevens doing an album of all the 50 States, but this should be an interesting project in itself. At least til they release their next full album.

From their site:

It's 4 songs & almost 20 minutes of music, and it features the feral sounds of our new piano. It's only $5, postage included. The first song is Corazon.

This year, we've decided to get back to what we do best, putting out music ourselves, and we're very happy with these first fruits. The songs will soon be up on iTunes, but what you really want to do is get one from us, because of the nifty self-mailing sleeve it comes in.

Each copy will be hand addressed by Justin Rice and postmarked by an equally addled man in the Willimasburg Post Office, commemorating the day your order shipped and the postage rates in effect that particular day.

The EP is a limited edition. They are only making 1000 copies. The piano artwork looks really nice too.

R.I.P. - Grandaddy 1992-2006

Its official. Grandaddy is no more.

Amy Phillips reports: (courtesy of Pitchfork)
After almost a decade and a half of scruffy indie rock and sprawling space-pop, the California band Grandaddy are headed for the great big rock and roll nursing home in the sky. In an interview with Pitchfork yesterday, frontman Jason Lytle revealed that Just Like the Fambly Cat, due out May 9 on V2, will be the last Grandaddy album, and that the band has no plans to tour.

Image hosting by Photobucket

"We've seen an erosion happening," Lytle said. "I use the word ‘erosion' in the most natural way I possibly can. It's not entirely such a bad thing. We have just, throughout the years, always looked at every album coming out as ‘Wow we've got another album, now what?'

Let me also add that, we might see some greater involvement in the band Earlimart with Grandaddy, since they've played with them and even joined them on some shows.

Smashing Pumpkins Returns?

Image hosting by Photobucket
I posted awhile back that Billy Corgan really wanted to reunite the Smashing Pumpkins, especially when he placed an Ad on the Chicago Tribune and even mentioned it on his website.
Well, seems like its coming together, but there's one missing element.....the guitarist, James Iha.

(courtesy of NME- Jan. 19, 2006)

Smashing Pumpkins are strongly rumoured to be reforming this summer for live shows - with Coachella touted as their comeback.

Singer Billy Corgan has made no secret of the fact he wants to reform his old band, and NME.COM has learned the band are set to make their comeback at the Californian festival on April 30.

Writing recently on his webpage, Corgan hinted reformation plans were coming along.

"The surprise I have in store for you all will be announced soon enough," he said. "Hold on to your horses. After all, good things surely comes to those who wait....Don't you just love the suspense?"

Corgan remains friends with former Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlain, and is also in contact with the band's second bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur, having collaborated with her on her forthcoming second solo album.

--------------

So how about James Iha?

(Billboard- Jan. 17, 2006)

Former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha and Fountains Of Wayne/Ivy principal Adam Schlesinger have signed on to produce a new studio album from enduring soft rock act America.

The Incomplete List of the Most Anticipated Albums This Year- 2006 Edition

-this list is incomplete since we'll be hearing more buzz in the coming months of other anticipated albums, but here's the breakdown so far:

1. Yeah Yeah Yeahs (March 2006)-
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
- The sophomore album (not including their EP)...promises to be totally different from their previous album.
NME reports: Yeah Yeah Yeah's Plan Reinvention

2. Arcade Fire (Late 2006)-
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
-The true test for Arcade Fire is to overcome the sophomore album stigma and prove the critics and the rest of the world that they are the real thing.

3. Radiohead (2006- no official date)-
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
-If you got a chance to hear their Ether concert bootleg of the new song "Arpeggi" back in March, this could be an interesting transition for a band that is attempting to push the envelope even more, especially as they ditch their long time producer to get a different sound and feel.

Other notable mentions:
Asobi Seksu
Bloc Party
Built to Spill
Trespasser Williams
Midnight Movies
TV on the Radio
The Raconteurs - the collaborative efforts of Jack White and Brendan Benson

We already got a nice whiff of:
Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins
The Arctic Monkeys

Still in the backburner?:
Also the neverending rumours circulating sometime of the return of Portishead.-- maybe this year?
