Today's Brew | Jonny Greenwood

Entertainment Weekly ran an article early November on the new flick coming out from PT Anderson, "There Will Be Blood". The article featured an interview between PT Anderson and Jonny Greenwood.
If you missed this article, check out the full article ovah here.

PT Anderson's comment:
To make a film, the final big collaborator that you have is the composer. Jonny was really one of the first people to see the film. And when he came back with a bunch of music, it actually helped show me what his impression of the film was. Which was terrific, because I had no impression. I had no idea what we were doing. And really, you have so many people that you collaborate with along this whole road of making a film, and you get to the end, and you're kind of face to face with two people really at the end: the editor and the composer. It's like the bottom of the Christmas tree. There's just the three of you standing, holding all of these people's work together, trying to make sense out of it. It was funny, because some of the stuff that Jonny came back with initially didn't make any sense to me at all. And he was smart enough to avoid me for a few days, so that I could let it all settle.

Today's Brew | Todd Haynes

I have yet to check out the movie, but I hope to catch it sometime this weekend.

LA WEEKLY asks Todd Haynes (director of I Am Not Here):
"In watching the movie, there’s a kind of generalized logic to why we’re moving from one story to another and one style to another. But there are many people who will have never seen anything like this before. I think there are going to be a lot of people very angry with you over this for reasons that they can’t quite explain. There’s a kind of sneaky audacity to doing a movie like this — an “art movie” for a general public. You’re prepared for a backlash, I trust?"

Todd Haynes responds,
"I am, but I was prepared for a lot more of it than I’ve been receiving. You may have encountered resistance in conversations with some people you know, but the general reaction to the film has been good. I’ve been stunned at how positive people have been and that they’ve just let it all flow. But believe me, I was prepared for the contrary in today’s market. I was resolved to not care, to just let it be in the world and take the time it takes to be appreciated..."

Today's Brew | Chris Schlarb

5 years in the making with over 40 musicians collaborating on this project...quite an ambitious effort.
A work of personal identity and deep catharsis, Twilight & Ghost Stories is a dense 40-minute modern composition featuring a disparate cross-section of musicians from the avant-garde, independent folk, jazz and electronic communities. (Asthmatic Kitty describes it in a nutshell)

Today's Brew | Burial

The critics loved the debut album...seems like its getting the same love from some.
Even P'folk like em.

"I like underground tunes that are true and mongrel and you see people trying to break that down, alter its nature. Underground music should have its back turned, it needs to be gone, untrackable, unreadable, just a distant light." (Burial in Hyperdub interview)

Today's Brew | My Bloody Valentine

The big buzz seems to be pointing to a new album to be released from the seminal band, My Bloody Valentine.

Soft Focus will air the interview with Kevin Shields this Monday on vbs.tv. Here's a little excerpt from the interview below.

I pretty much know what the one that’s going to come out this year is going to sound like because its already pretty much 3/4’s done already…it sounds like what we sounded like – different but not radically different. People will go, “Yeah, it sounds like My Bloody Valentine.” (Kevin Shields interview on Soft Focus)

Daily Swarm has reported that "The band recently activated mybloodyvalentine.co.uk and Shields’ manager confirmed the the site is being built by Debbie Goodge, the band’s bass player. It is possible that the album will see an independent, Internet-only, Radiohead style release, and a release date could be announced at any time."
